Biography
Dr. Dimitrios Mertzis is a Mechanical Engineer with a PhD in biomass gasification and more than 15 years of experience in low-carbon technologies and applied research. His work focuses on the thermochemical conversion of organic waste into fuels and energy, and on developing decentralised renewable energy solutions that enhance resilience and efficiency. He is co-founder and Director of BIO2CHP, a spin-out of the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki, where he leads product development and R&D. He has served as an expert evaluator for the European Commission, a reviewer in international scientific journals, and a certified energy auditor. Dr. Mertzis is also the inventor of a patent in biomass conversion and the author of several scientific and technical publications, while continuing to provide expert consulting in bioenergy, biofuels, and renewable energy projects.
