Kelly Velonia
Biography
Kelly Velonia is an Associate Professor of Chemistry in the Department of Materials Science and Engineering at the University of Crete. She holds a PhD in mechanistic organic chemistry from the University of Crete and conducted postdoctoral research at Radboud University in the Netherlands and KU Leuven in Belgium. She later served as an Assistant Professor in the Department of Organic Chemistry at the University of Geneva (Switzerland) before joining the University of Crete in 2008. Her research focuses on the design and synthesis of sustainable polymers and biopolymers, such as protein-polymer hybrids, the controlled assembly of biomaterials, and the development of synthetic biomaterials for applications in biotechnology and materials science -including drug delivery, nanoreactors, and catalysis. Dr. Velonia has authored over 50 scientific articles, presented her work at more than 100 international conferences, and led more than 15 national and international research projects.
